NASCAR driver Daniel Suarez, the only driver born in Mexico currently racing in the Cup Series, made a special appearance at La Bonita Supermarket in North Las Vegas during Hispanic Heritage Month to celebrate his Mexican heritage and recognize the growing fans who are represented in the sport during the South Point 400 Weekend.
The fans were excited to welcome Suarez to a joyous setting filled with pan dulce and aguas frescas, a feeling of home for the driver. “I'm telling you, I feel like I'm in Mexico right here,” Suarez said. “They just make me feel like home. It's very special.”
North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown emphasized the importance of Suarez's visit for the local community. “To see someone as successful as he is just shows our younger generation that you can do and be anything you want to be,” Goynes-Brown said.
Suarez, who became a NASCAR trailblazer when he won the 2016 Xfinity Championship, spoke about the pride he carries for his roots. “That's my biggest pride to say that I'm from Mexico and I was born and raised in Mexico. I came here without speaking the language and things like that,” he said.
For young fans like Nestor Lopez, Suarez's success represents more than just racing achievements. “It's like the Mexican pride in NASCAR ever since Daniel Suarez won the 2016 Xfinity Championship. It's just been amazing for the Latino community to see a Mexican driver in the Cup Series,” Lopez said.
The event provided an occasion to connect with fans, inspire future generations, and strengthen community bonds in one of the most colorful Hispanic neighborhoods in Las Vegas. As NASCAR continues to expand, Suarez is a representation of endurance, pride in culture, and incoming diversity in the sport.
