On Sept. 15, Clark County officially launched Latino Heritage Month with a ceremony at the famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. County Commissioner William McCurdy II hosted the event. It marked the beginning of a month-long celebration honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans with ancestors from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
The ceremony featured a proclamation recognizing Latino Heritage Month and highlighted the important role of local consulates from Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. These recognitions emphasized the cultural richness and community impact of Latino residents throughout Southern Nevada.
Latino Heritage Month, celebrated annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, is a time to reflect on the diverse backgrounds and shared history that strengthen communities across the United States. Commissioner McCurdy emphasized the significance of this observance, stating, "Southern Nevada's diversity is one of our greatest assets, and we are proud to recognize the vital role Latino families and businesses play in helping Clark County thrive."
In Clark County, Latino residents are represented by almost one-third of the total population, and they have been paramount to the area's growth and culture. The Latino culture is reflected throughout the region's businesses, neighborhoods, and cultural events that continue to contribute to the cultural identity and economic vibrancy of Clark County.
Throughout the month, there are various events in Southern Nevada to commemorate our remarkable Latino heritage culture and increase cultural awareness. Each resident and visitor is invited to participate in the celebrations that encompass building bridges of understanding, building unity, and fostering pride among the many diverse communities of Clark County.
